Underrated Drama Recommendation

Title: IS -Otoko Demo Onna Demo Nai Sei (Jdrama)

Genre: Drama

Cast: Fukuda Saki, Gouriki AyameInoue Masahiro, Irie Jingi

Synopsis: “IS” stands for “intersexual,” a term referring to people who cannot clearly be classified as male or female, and who may biologically possess characteristics of both sexes. Rokuhana’s manga primarily deals with the troubles faced by the young Hoshino Haru (played by Fukuda), an intersexual who was registered as a girl at birth but has been raised as a boy.

Goriki plays Aihara Miwako, a mysterious classmate who tries to get close to Haru. Inoue Masahiro has been cast as Ibuki Kenji, a member of the soccer club whom Haru begins having feelings for. Nishida Naomi and Minami Kaho play Miwako’s and Haru’s mothers, respectively.

Drama Review: “Something about jdramas that know how to make you understand another person difficulty in life. Like One Liter of Tears, this drama taught me about the important things in life.

There is so many things that I thought about after watching this drama. It made me wonder what I would have done if I was in Haru’ shoes or if I was a parent of an IS… things like that. My only complain about the drama is that it was too short. Other than that it was great drama to watch. I recommend it to whoever enjoys a good deep jdrama. - filssun

Underrated Drama Recommendation

Title: The Princess’ Man (Kdrama)

Genre: Romance, Period

Cast: Park Shi Hoo, Moon Chae Won, Song Jong Ho, Hong Soo Hyun, Lee Soon Jae

Synopsis: A tragic love story between the daughter of Prince Suyang and grandson of Kim Jong Seo. The son of Kim Jongseo, Seungyoo, is a handsome and wise man who carries a noble quality. Princess Seryeong, a daughter of King Sejo, aka prince Sooyang, is a cheerful, lively lady with a strong curiosity and bold personality. They fall in love instantly but later they find out that their parents are sworn enemies. It’s a Chosun dynasty version of “Romeo and Juliet”.

Drama Review: Epic, moving, suspenseful, and superbly paced. If I were limited to only a handful of words, that’s how I’d describe The Princess’s Man, KBS’s romantic melodrama and premium sageuk from earlier this summer. Then again, I’ve never been good with brevity and I do have an open-ended word count available, so let’s cut to the chase and get right to it. Sit back and settle in; this may take a while… - Javabeans from Dramabeans (read more of the review)

He is definitely my soulmate!!” Soo-kyung, a girl who only looks at one man like a sunflower; a perfect, pure hearted character. Two people who have never seen each other, and who live on the opposite sides of the world from each other live and love in their own way, but from some point on they start to move towards the same dream and feel the same physiological feelings. Two people who have met by fate in a world full of mixed up fates. Now, the most amazing things, which no one could have ever thought of, start to unfold between the two.

Drama Review: “This drama has stayed with me over the years. The plot is fast-paced, the acting is superb, and the music is really phenomenal (I actually made a playlist of the OST that I listen to all the time!). This drama is one that is done so incredibly well, it truly hits all the high notes for me. If you love slightly offbeat dramas, “indie vibes” if you will, you will absolutely love this drama! Soulmate is hands down my favorite drama of all time.” - MoonDancer

Title: Life (Jdrama)

Genre: School, Human

Cast: Kitano Kii, Fukuda Saki

Synopsis: Adapted from Keiko Suenobu’s manga “LIFE,” this drama delves into the dark side of high school life and focuses on severe bullying in an exclusive high school of Ayumu committed by her former friend Manami Anzai. Manami is able to dominate the classroom through her evil tactics and also her wealthy and powerful father, however Ayumu refuses to be give in to bullying even though the majority of the class has been turned against her.

Thoughts about the drama: “The drama is excellently directed with an exciting storyline with never a dull moment. Issues covered are relevant to all schools today, it highlights how those who are bullied can go unnoticed. This Jdrama is not for children and I think would be distressing to people under 16.” - The Red Baron
